Our story

Putting
Children First

🌱 Our Story Kidz Day Nursery Ltd was founded in 2014 by husband-and-wife team Bill and Julie Whitbread in the rural village of Ingleton, North Yorkshire. Recognising the growing need for childcare to support local families—many of whom were commuting long distances for work—the couple set out to create a nursery that offered child-centred care with the flexible hours families truly needed. What began with just a handful of children and a small, dedicated team soon blossomed into a home-from-home environment, deeply rooted in the local community. Originally envisioned as a business for Julie, who brought over 20 years of experience in early childhood education, the nursery’s success quickly required Bill to join the team. His support with administration and vision helped the nursery grow, ensuring that their shared values of care, trust, and family-first education remained at the heart of everything they do. Every family is valued. And every day is an opportunity to grow together.
Join us in shaping a bright future—where every day is an opportunity to grow, learn, and play!

To provide a high-quality, happy, and secure learning environment that is child- and family-focused, where every individual feels welcomed, valued, and supported. By following each child's interests and pace, we nurture confident, capable individuals who feel empowered to discover the world around them—on their own terms, with encouragement every step of the way.

What Sets Us Apart

At Kidz Day Nursery, the moment you step through our doors, you can feel the difference—a sense of warmth, purpose, and joy. This quality isn’t accidental. It’s built on the six “pillars” of belief that form the heart of everything we do. These core values guide our practice, shape our learning environment, and define the way we care for and educate every child in our community. Our Six Pillars of Belief

1) - Child-Led Learning – We respect each child's voice, interests, and natural curiosity.

2)- Nurturing Relationships – Strong connections with children and families are at the core of our success.

3) - Play as the Foundation – Through play, children explore, create, and understand the world around them.

4) - Inclusivity & Respect – Every child is valued, celebrated, and welcomed for who they are.

5) - Holistic Development – We support emotional, social, physical, and cognitive growth in equal measure.

6) - Partnership with Families – Learning is a shared journey, and we build strong partnerships with the families we serve.

  1. Experiential Learning

"We create environments where children feel empowered to explore, play, and connect with the world around them. Through thoughtful experiences, they discover what is meaningful to them—both in the moment and as they grow."

  2. Community

We believe learning thrives through strong relationships. Families, educators, peers, and the wider community each play a vital role in shaping a child’s journey. By fostering these connections, we create an environment where children feel valued, supported, and eager to discover the world."

  3. Collaboration

"We nurture a learning environment where children explore new experiences and tackle challenges together. Through shared problem-solving and discovery, they build strong connections—with each other, their surroundings, and their sense of self."

  4. Proven Models

"Learning is more than acquiring knowledge—it’s about connection. We embrace educational philosophies that recognize the power of relationships, ensuring children feel supported, engaged, and inspired to grow alongside others."

Nursery Locations

We believe children learn by building on the knowledge they already have – primarily exhibited through play. Practitioners help children learn by creating a rich environment to explore via exciting educational activities.

Parent Partnership

working Hand in Hand
     with Parentzone

All our Kidz Day Nurseries We have introduced ParentZone, an interactive app that allows parents a safe network to access information about their child’s day at a time that suits them. Our staff upload videos and photos and parents can then log on and view their child’s activity. At the same time, parents can contribute to their child’s learning journey and make notes for their key person, helping to build relationships between families and the nursery. We’ve had great feedback from our parents who’ve said they love to be able to get a full insight into their child’s day at the touch of a button.

 FUNDING LOOP

We are pleased to introduce our families to Funding Loop – After we identified how much time was spent by both nursery and staff in filling out parental declaration forms, we decided to invest in Funding loop to make form filling quick and easy for every one, allowing parents to easily claim their funding entitlement.

What is Funding Loop?

Funding Loop allows you to complete and return these Parental Declaration forms online, using a computer or a mobile device at your convenience. Since a lot of the information is already known to the nursery, most of the information on the form is already filled in. All you need to do is fill in any blanks, sign (using a finger on the screen or with a mouse) and submit. If you are required to fill in another form for a future term, Funding Loop remembers any previous information entered, making it even easier the second time round.

Early Years Funded Childcare

Funded Childcare 15 hours & 30 hours

Early Years Funding is a national scheme, administered by local authorities, which offers funded childcare hours with an Ofsted registered provider. A variety of funded hours are available depending on the child’s age and the family’s situation. Day Nursery providers can choose how to offer the Early Years Funding as long as certain parameters are met; these vary depending on each nursery’s local authority.

What we do at Kidz

What do Kidz do?

As an all-year-round childcare provider we can stretch the funding for up to 50 weeks, instead of limiting it to 38 weeks term time only. This allows families whose child is registered part time to access more of the funded hours than they would otherwise be able to if we used the restricted term time structure.

At some of our nurseries we may offer the funding term time only, if this something you’d prefer. However, this is dependent on which age range funding you have, operational requirements and each local authority requirements.

How it all works

This scheme is for qualifying working parents. The funded hours are provided across 38 weeks during term time and, if you’re living with your partner you’ll need to apply together.
Parents:
• Should be working at least 16 hours a week
• Can be on sick leave or parental leave
• Must each earn less than £100,000 a year
• Might still be eligible while claiming benefits.

We ‘stretch’ these hours and how that works varies between our nurseries When you are eligible for 30 hours you can access up to 22.8 funded hours per week, across
50 weeks.

Why 50 weeks?

Why 50 weeks?

This means there is one week at Christmas when we are closed, we do not charge for this week and there is an additional week with no funding allocated to it.

Parents whose child/children are on stretched booking patterns can choose which week they do not wish to attend (Minimum of 1 months’ notice required), if you do not wish to take a week off, then paid sessions will be allocated.
